Welcome!

Matthew Pais is currently employed by Dassult Systèmes Simulia Corp. as a Technical Specialist working at an aerospace company providing on-site technical support in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was a Ph.D. student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Florida before graduating with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in December 2011. He was a member of the Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization Group where he worked with Dr. Nam-Ho Kim. His research involved modeling quasi-static crack growth in composite materials using the extended finite element method (XFEM). Specific areas of work include crack initiation through the use of optimization, kriging for increased step size for fatigue crack growth modeling, reanalysis of XFEM for quasi-static crack growth.

He graduated with a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida in December 2009 as a result of coursework completed while working towards his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.

He graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with honors from the University of Missouri in May 2007. As an undergraduate student he participated in undergraduate research with Dr. Hao Li involving the fabrication and testing of novel nanofiller reinforced dental composites. He also spent a summer at a NSF sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates at the University of Missouri at Rolla.
